O presidente Luiz In�cio Lula da Silva (PT) disse estar preocupado com crise entre Venezuela e Guiana e defendeu o di�logo entre os dois pa�ses sul-americanos em telefonema com Nicol�s Maduro, presidente da Venezuela, realizado neste s�bado (9).
A tens�o entre Venezuela e Guiana � causada por uma disputa territorial pela regi�o denominada Essequibo. A regi�o hoje faz parte do territ�rio da Guiana, mas � reivindicado pelo governo de maduro. Equivalente a cerca de 70% do territ�rio guianense, local possui reserva vasta de petr�leo e � motor para renascimento econ�mico do pa�s. Entenda a disputa.
"O presidente Lula transmitiu a crescente preocupa��o dos pa�ses da Am�rica do Sul sobre a quest�o do Essequibo. Exp�s os termos da declara��o sobre o assunto aprovada na C�pula do Mercosul e assinada por Brasil, Uruguai, Paraguai, Argentina, Col�mbia, Peru, Equador e Chile. De acordo com o Pal�cio do Planalto, Lula sugeriu a Maduro que o presidente da Comunidade dos Estados Latino-Americanos e Caribenhos (CELAC), Ralph Gonsalves, primeiro-ministro de S�o Vicente e Granadinas, trate do tema com Venezuela e Guiana.
O presidente, ainda de acordo com o governo, tamb�m reiterou que o Brasil est� a disposi��o para apoiar e acompanhar essas iniciativas de di�logos para a resolu��o da quest�o territorial.

Venezuelanos aprovaram anexa��o
Os venezuelanos rejeitaram, em referendo np domingo (3), a jurisdi��o da Corte Internacional de Justi�a sobre a longa disputa territorial do pa�s com a vizinha Guiana � e apoiaram a cria��o de um novo estado na regi�o de Essequibo. Segundo a autoridade eleitoral local, mais de 95% dos eleitores aprovaram as cinco quest�es elaboradas pelo governo.
A corte havia proibido a Venezuela de tomar qualquer medida que pudesse mudar a situa��o na �rea, mas o governo do presidente Nicol�s Maduro avan�ou com um referendo �consultivo� de cinco perguntas.
O referendo tinha apenas car�ter consultivo, mas na sexta-feira (8), Maduro assinou seis decretos para incorporar Essequibo e transformar o territ�rio guianense em um estado venezuelano.
A iniciativa ocorreu no dia seguinte ao an�ncio de que os Estados Unidos realizariam exerc�cios militares na Guiana, inclusive em Essequibo, o que a Venezuela interpretou como uma "provoca��o".
