The Imaginary Figure in Clay taught by Diane van der Zanden 10 Mondays, Sept.9-Nov. 25, 7-10 pm

In this class you will sculpt each other, a self portrait, a dream image or story, a gargoyle, and an imaginary person. You'll work on personal expression, have fun, and learn a little anatomy. $170 INCLUDES CLAY


Figure Sculpture in Wax & Plaster taught by Diane van der Zanden 10 Tuesdays, Sept. 10-Nov. 12, 7-10pm

Students explore additive, carving, and structural techniques for direct permanent plaster sculpture as well as wax sculpture which can be invested for bronze casting. You will learn through fun exercises and work with a model in four class sessions. $225 INCLUDES PLASTER & WAX


Figure Sculpture in Clay taught by Diane van der Zanden 10 Tuesdays, Sept. 10-Nov. 12, 9:30-12:30

You will learn basic clay techniques, build a couple of armatures, and work from the model at four of the class sessions. $225 INCLUDES 25 LBS CLAY

Mixed Media 2-D/3-D taught by Rhoda London 10 Thursdays, Sept.12-Nov. 14, 9:30-12:30

This class will explore the resources we have for creating narrative, personal, iconographical, and psychological works of art using your experiences and easy, non-traditional materials. $225 INCLUDES SOME MATERIALS


Drawing From the Cube to the Nude taught by Mari Chovan Upton 9 Saturdays, Sept. 14-Nov. 23, 1:30-4:30

An intensive course that leads the student from drawing simple geometric forms, through the still life, to the portrait, and finally to the figure. $210 (Materials list will be sent upon registration)


WORKSHOPS

Plaster Mold Making taught by Diane van der Zanden Sundays, July 14 & 21, 10:00-4:00

Demonstrations will include simple dump molds and dam wall molds. Bring two small (4") simple pieces in wet clay, plasticine, or wax, a notebook, & modeling tools. $135 INCLUDES SUPPLIES

TEACHERS

Rhoda London received her MFA from CCAC, where she is presently teaching. She also teaches privately and has lectured at the Art Institute, San Francisco State University, and at Mills College. She exhibits her work in California and in New York.


Mari Chovan Upton received her BFA from CCAC and studied drawing and sculpture in Italy and at Dési-Huber Istuán Fine Art School in Hungary. She exhibits her work in the Bay Area.


Diane van der Zanden is an exhibiting artist who received her BFA in sculpture from the University of Oregon in 1987. She is a teacher at Studio One Art Center in Oakland and a leader of No Limits for Women in the Arts.

Upcoming classes include rubber mold making, casting into your rubber and plaster molds, ceramic tile making. and more. The next session begins January 13th.
